Major traffic on I-44 Thursday after two consecutive crashes involving tractor trailers.
The first occurred just after 4 o’clock when a semi rolled over past mile marker 71. While no one was injured, the resulting traffic caused a pickup several miles behind to slam into the back of a tractor trailer.
The pickup burst into flames and the mangled frame pinned the driver inside.
Emergency crews managed to put out the fire quickly, but took longer to rescue the pinned man.
The driver sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to the hospital.
Traffic was delayed for over five hours.
