Two men are dead after a house fire in Stone County Saturday evening.
Firefighters from the Northern Stone County Fire Protection District responded to the fire on 961 Roundhouse Road at 6:55 p.m. after getting a call about the fire at 6:45.
Captain Bob McCullough says fighting the fire was complicated by numerous factors. The state of the road up to the house prevented several tankers carrying water from reaching the firefighters. Assistance was requested from other local fire departments, with tankers from the Crane, Billings, Clever, Hurley, and Aurora Rural Fire Protection Districts coming to help.
Captain McCullough estimates around 8-10 tankers came to help, but only some made it up the road.
The Stone County Sheriff responded to the fire at around 7:53. He says the fire does not appear suspicious.
The Fire Marshal is investigating the case.
