The Springfield police and fire pension fund now has an additional $7.4 million. Springfield city council voted to place the money from AT&T settlement proceeds into the fund. Sales tax collections were up 1.5 percent from a year ago, the first increase since last August. Despite concerns about costs for homeowners, council voted to construct sanitary sewers for homes near the Springfield Nature Center and Lake Springfield on the city's south side. And council passed a resolution to include Springfield as a stop on a planned nationwide high speed rail network.
