Plans to extend Kansas Expressway south of Republic Road in Springfield is getting delayed.
The Greene County Highway Department says instead of starting work this spring, a new goal is set for this fall.
Officials say one reason is because the end of Phase One has been extended from Weaver Road down to Plainview.
The department says neighbors also shared concerns of how the construction will affect surrounding wildlife and property lines, so crews will be adding retaining walls to plans in order to minimize the impact.
Phase one of the Kansas Expressway Extension Project is expected to take 24 months and measures about 1.6 miles. It will cost nearly $20 million.
