The National Weather Service says the tornadoes that hit Carl Junction and Golden City were both EF-3s with winds around 140 miles an hour.
Three people died when the tornado hit Golden City.
Authorities say the Carl Junction tornado destroyed about three dozen homes.
An EF-0 tornado hit Oronogo in the Joplin area, destroying some trees.
And a weak EF-0 also touched down along the Kansas and Oklahoma line.
