The northern Ozarks and central Missouri may be in line for strong to severe thunderstorms later Friday evening.
The National Weather Service says storms will fire up along a front and reach as far south as a Joplin to Bolivar to Rolla line Friday night.
Large hail and damaging winds will be the main risks, although there’s a limited chance for a tornado while the stronger instability is in place through the evening hours.
Some heavy rain will be possible with this new storm activity Friday night into Saturday morning over central Missouri.
Forecasters say scattered thunderstorms will be possible at times through the Memorial Day weekend, generally in northern portions of the Ozarks, where a front will stall and then weaken over central Missouri.
Looking ahead to next week, a cold front is expected to move through late Tuesday and Tuesday night, with severe storms possible.
