FBI Offers Reward in Cape Girardeau Islamic Center Fire

The Islamic Center of Cape Girardeau is an integral part of the community and has welcomed everybody around them since its opening in 1999.
But around 5 AM on the 1st day of Ramadan, April 24th, the Islamic center went up in flames.
The fire has been dubbed as suspicious and police are asking anyone who drove by shortly before 5 AM on Friday to contact 573-335-6621 to speak with detectives.
About 12 to 15 people were able to evacuate from the building and escaped injury.

After evaluation of damage, authorities say the building is a total loss and needs an estimated $1 million in repairs.

The FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of anyone connected to the fire.

Special Agent in Charge of the St. Louis Division Richard Quinn announced the award Friday night.

The Missouri chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations urged law enforcement to investigate a possible bias motive.

A GoFundMe has amassed just over $70,000 in donations for rebuild at the time this article was written.
