Springfield Protest for George Floyd Lasts Hours

Protestors rallied on Glenstone and Battlefield today to protest the death George Floyd, a black man from Minneapolis who died after being pinned underneath white officer Derek Chauvin’s knee.

Video of Floyd shows him requesting the officer get off of his neck, and saying he cannot breathe, as he slowly becomes unresponsive.

Springfield protestors have lined on the streets carrying signs supportive of Floyd and wearing face masks.

The intersection at Glenstone and Battlefield was closed down for protestors for some time.

The protest is titled “Peaceful Protest for George Floyd. Say His Name.” Protestors marched to the streets at around 3 p.m. and continued to protest for hours.

As of Friday, Minneapolis Officer Derek Chauvin had been arrested and faces charges of third-degree murder and second degree manslaughter.

There is no longer any impediment to traffic.
