The Cooper Tennis Complex indoor facility is closed today after a power outage and flooding.
The complex closed Thursday after storms toppled 13 utility poles on Pythian.
While the facility was closed, a fire suppression system pipe burst inside a wall, flooding several parts of the building.
People going to the complex are recommended to enter through the breezeway, the same entrance that was reopened after COVID-19 closures.
The outdoor courts are open.

SPRINGFIELD, MO — The Springfield-Greene County Park Board’s Cooper Tennis Complex indoor facility will be closed Friday, June 5, following a power outage and an interior flood. The outdoor courts remain open.
Cooper Tennis Complex was closed Thursday, June 4, due to an early morning power outage caused by a storm that toppled 13 utility poles nearby on Pythian Street. While the facility was closed, a fire suppression system supply pipe burst inside a wall, quickly flooding the main entrance and common area, the front desk, the men’s locker room and several offices and closets. It is unclear whether the pipe failure was related to the power outage. The facility’s twelve indoor courts, renovated in 2019, were unharmed.
“We got a real double-whammy: first the power outage, then the flood,” said Bob Belote, Director of Parks. “It’s disappointing. But the good news is we have outdoor courts open and we’ll make the best of it.”
Cooper Tennis Complex indoor courts and facilities remain closed Friday, but the facility’s 16 outdoor courts are open. Enter through the breezeway — this is the entrance in use since the facility reopened after COVID-19 closures. The facility remains without power, and restrooms may not be available. The parking lot entrance is currently blocked by debris. Members and guests may park their vehicles nearby at Cooper Baseball, or Killian Sports Complex and walk to the tennis complex.
All tennis classes at Cooper are canceled Friday, including Cooper Tennis Academy’s High- Performance Team, Level 1, Level 2, and Future Stars. A make-up class will be added later in the month.
Students with private lessons at Cooper Tennis Center Friday are advised to contact their coach for before arriving.
Court reservations will be relocated to the outdoor courts, or will be rescheduled at a later date. Phones and computers, including court reservation system, are unavailable Friday.
Due to COVID-19 prevention, all members and visitors to sports complexes, and any park or trail are asked to keep a minimum six-foot distance from others, make sure they wash their hands frequently, avoid touching their faces, cover any coughs or sneezes, and please stay home if they are feeling any symptoms of illness.
