Sheriff Chris Jennings in Newton County is warning the people in the area about a scammer pretending to be a lieutenant with the Newton County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Jennings says no one in their office is calling anyone and asking for information.
Jennings also says the caller has been verbally abusive with people on the phone.
If you get a call like this, you’re asked to hang up immediately and contact the sheriff’s office.
The Sheriff’s office is conducting an investigation.
