The Discovery Center in downtown Springfield has won a $1-million dollar national prize, beating out hundreds of organizations across the country.
It won the STOP Award from Forbes and the Center for Education Reform.
STOP stands for sustainable, transformational, outstanding, and permissionless.
It plans to use the money to become a full-time, permissionless school for hundreds of students, including a STEM-themed playground.
The science center stayed open during the pandemic, changing the way it educates kids.
