Health officials have confirmed the first case of monkeypox in Greene County.

This makes a total of 15 cases in Missouri, and 9 in Arkansas.

The virus causes an infectious rash accompanied by high fever and fatigue.

KY3 says there are nearly 9,000 confirmed monkeypox cases in the US.

Area hospitals are putting plans in place to help limit the spread and educate the public about this highly contagious virus.

The Springfield-Greene County Health Department is investigating more potential cases.
