Following last night’s severe thunderstorms and heavy wind damage, it may take up to 48 hours to get service back in order.  As of Noon today, City Utilities reported that nearly 8,000 folks still don’t have power.  The storm left plenty of damage

For those who don’t have power, there’s the added fact that Springfield & Greene County are also under a Heat Advisory until 8 p.m. this evening and again tomorrow from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

From the Springfield – Greene County Health Department, “many people could experience heat-related illness at home. In addition to the impact that high heat has on our health and the health of our pets, the lack of electricity also effects the safety of our perishable foods.”

The health department has a complete listing of recommendations on how to take care of yourself, those around you as well as your pets. Read more on how to avoid health risks during power outages and heat advisories here.
