Mother Nature continues to cause issues in Florida. Sinkholes are nothing new to Florida but they have been experiencing more of them of late. This latest chapter is in Polk County, Florida.
The latest one is in the same area a 75 foot wide sinkhole was reported a few month ago. The good news is that the new sinkhole is 50 feet wide & 12 foot deep – smaller than previous one. However, both are located on land owned by a development company which recently had been doing some drilling. There was no threat to existing roads, homes or other structures. The county reports that the land’s proposed use is a new home development.
This follows a sinkhole in Hillsborough County, Florida which opening in July for the third time in ten years. When it occured the first time in 2013, it swallowed a man who was sleeping in his bed room, under which the sinkhole happened. His brother tried recusing him but unfortunately the man was killed.
