Press Release
Greene County Assessor Brent Johnson is reminding residents to be looking for their 2024 personal property and business assessment lists which are currently making their way into mailboxes across Greene County.
The Assessor’s Office has efficiently mailed over 125,000 personal property lists for the year 2024, in compliance with state statutes.
Under state statutes, all owners of personal property are required to declare their items under their control as of January 1st each year to the Assessor’s Office.
This encompasses a broad spectrum, including motor vehicles, boats, trailers, livestock, farm machinery, and business-related equipment.
The assessment lists must be returned to the Assessor’s Office by March 1st to avoid incurring late filing penalties, as mandated by Missouri State Statute.
Late filing penalties range from $15 to $105, based on the total assessed value of personal property.
Johnson emphasizes the importance of early submission to avoid late filing fees and encourages the utilization of the e-filing option available on the official website: https://greenecountymo.gov/assessor/online.php .
Residents are encouraged to e-file their personal property assessment lists at their convenience.
In reference to the success of online filing in 2023, Johnson notes that over 36,482 county residents took advantage of this streamlined process.
Those who filed online in the previous year will receive a postcard facilitating online filing for the year 2024, contributing to substantial savings in taxpayer funds by eliminating the need for paper lists and postage.
For residents who did not receive a Personal Property or Business Personal Property assessment list or postcard via mail and believe they should have, the Assessor’s Office is readily accessible for assistance.
They can be reached at:
- Personal Property: (417) 868-4191
- PersonalProperty@greenecountymo.gov (for individuals)
- BusinessProperty@greenecountymo.gov (for businesses)
