Press Release

Due to necessary facility renovations, Springfield-Greene County Health is announcing the upcoming temporary closure of the Harold K. Bengsch Building at 227 East Chestnut Expressway. Service and business operations typically offered at the Bengsch Building will be relocated to the 4th floor of Cox Medical Tower at 1443 North Robberson Avenue.

The Bengsch Building will close to the public on February 26, 2024. Bengsch Building services will pause for one week while operations are relocated. Services will resume at Cox Medical Tower on March 4, 2024 until renovations are complete.

All public services currently provided at the Bengsch Building will continue upon opening at Cox Medical Tower. These services include:

Springfield-Greene County Health is informing the public early of this relocation and pause in services in an effort to minimize any inconvenience that may arise from this situation. We understand that this will pose challenges for some and with that in mind, want to provide ample time for individuals to plan for how they may be impacted.

Cox Medical Tower was carefully selected to ensure minimal disruption to services during this transition. The facility is located 0.7 miles directly north of the Bengsch Building and along an existing bus line. Elevators are available for public use.

Health Department programs with offices outside the Bengsch Building will not experience a pause in service or be affected by the relocation. Programs not affected include WIC, Greater Ozarks Regional Mother’s Milk Depot, Environmental Health Services and Animal Control.

We appreciate the community’s understanding as we work to make necessary updates to our facilities which should be complete summer 2024. During this temporary closure and relocation, our team will continue to work diligently to maintain our dedicated efforts to ensure all people live longer, healthier, happier lives.
