(Springfield’s News Talk 104.1) – A Springfield man was sentenced Monday after pleading guilty to DWI felony charges for a 2021 car accident that killed two people.
Gary Calhoun was sentenced to 15 years on one count of a felony DWI causing the death of two or more people as well as 180 days in Greene County Jail on one count of a DWI misdemeanor, with the sentences running concurrently.
Calhoun entered an Alford plea agreement earlier this year. In the Alford plea, the state agreed to drop two felony counts of DWI – death of another not a passenger and one felony count of DWI – physical injury.
On Aug 27, 2021, Calhoun crashed into a 2013 Kia Soul driven by Amber Kendall and a 2017 Western Star tracker trailer driven by Felix Gonzalez.
Gonzalez died at the scene, while Kendall was sent to the hospital and died from her injuries.
