The day of the 2024 solar eclipse has finally arrived. The solar eclipse, the last one to be experienced in the United States until 2044, will occur today from the southwest to the northeast as the moon passes in between planet Earth and the Sun. Here in the Ozarks, the eclipse will occur at about 1:54 p.m. (Time will vary depending on where you’re watching the skies from.
The eclipse will begin it’s stages at 12:36 p.m., peak about 1:54 p.m. and finish its last stage at about 3:12 p.m. In Springfield, we will experience about 97% of the total eclipse.
As you’re viewing, don’t forget to take in the change in behavior of the animals, including your pets, and listen for the birds, who will probably think it’s evening, not mid-afternoon. KOLR 10’s Matt Hefner mention on the news last night that there may be a slight cooling or a change in the wind in the air as well as darkness occurs.
Fox News will have a running live update page which you can see here.
Enjoy the eclipse and don’t forget to wear those special glasses to protect your eyes and experience the eclipse at it’s best.
