(Press Release/Springfield’s Talk 104.1) – A severe storm system with extremely high winds has caused significant damage across the Springfield metro area, causing widespread power outages throughout City Utilities’ service territory.

As of 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, CU confirmed nearly 50,000 customers are without power.

That is the largest outage since the 2007 ice storm.

Crews say that some outages may last days and mutual assistance has been requested.

If you are experiencing a power outage, please report it through the City Utilities MyAccount app, on our website at www.cityutilities.net, or by calling 888-863-9001. Please be aware that hold times may be longer than usual as we continue to assess the damage.

If you encounter downed power lines, always assume they are energized. Stay far away and report them immediately by calling (417) 863-9000 or 911. This number is reserved for emergencies and downed line reports only.

To report storm damage, other than downed lines or power outages, contact the Greene County Public Information Call Center at 417-829-6200.

CU has also received reports of natural gas odors and possible leaks. If you smell gas or suspect a gas leak, leave the area immediately and call 911 or CU at (417) 863-9000. Do not use electrical switches, phones, or anything that could create a spark.
