The National Weather Service in Springfield has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10pm for counties south of I-44.
Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop this afternoon throughout the Ozarks.
NWS says areas east of US 65 and south of I-44 have the highest potential for severe storms.
Ping pong size hail and damaging wind gusts are the main threats of these storms. There’s already been reports of pea size amounts to the west of Ava and St. James.
“Out towards south central Missouri and farther east is where the best potential will be for large hail and damaging winds,” says NWS Meteorologist Kyle Perez.
