(KTTS News) — A slaughterhouse in Pleasant Hope won’t be able to dump treated wastewater into the Pomme de Terre River – at least, not for now.
The Department of Natural Resources says it needs more information before it decides to let Missouri Prime Beef Packers use a technology called iLeaf to treat and release 350,000 gallons of wastewater into the river every day.
That’s good news for people who lobbied the state to prevent the company from dumping the wastewater.
For now, the company is dumping the water onto designated land.
But if the river request is denied, that won’t be allowed to do that either.
There are three more public meetings on the issue.
Two of them are virtual.
There’s an in-person meeting on January 6 at Pleasant Hope Middle School.
